This year marks the 20th anniversary of the World Gourmet Summit, an annual gastronomic festival organised by A la Carte Productions in Singapore that puts together a unique menu of events featuring culinary talents and dining outlets both local and international. Like an enormous buffet spread with everything and anything you can dream of, the plethora of workshops and events at this festival, spreading out over four weeks, will have you spoilt for choice.

But lucky for you, we’ve gathered a short list of 9 options less 10 minutes’ drive from PARKROYAL on Pickering, our centrally-located hotel-in-a-garden that might ease your decision-making.

1. Morsels: Smoke & Sake

2 Morsels - Smoke & Sake
Fancy Japanese rice wine? Try this two-part workshop, starting with a master class with Japanese sake master Hiroshi Inoue. A 5th generation brewer of Sawahime Daiginjyo, a 2010 International Wine Challenge champion sake, Hiroshi Inoue will introduce you to the art of sake making and hosting sake parties – you’ll even learn about the type of glassware used for different sakes. The evening will end with a five-course dinner prepared by Petrina Loh and Bryan Chia, both chef-owners of Morsels, an Asian fusion restaurant in Singapore. Among the appetising choices on the menu are Smoked Sakura Chicken, Smoked Wagyu Oxtail, Pickled Sakura Flowers, and Ricotta Gnudi.

2. WGS 20 Best Chefs

This is the event of the World Gourmet Summit that you wouldn’t want to miss. A weekend-long symposium that commemorates the festival’s 20th anniversary, it will feature panel discussions, tasting sessions, master classes with 20 of the world’s best culinary stars, as well as an open to public farmer’s market next doors. On top of the impressive programme line-up, all participants will also receive a complimentary Aesop luxury travel gift set.

An up-scale Indian restaurant in Singapore that’s largely influenced by the grandeur of Indian rulers, Punjab Grill mixes royal tastes with common dishes such as the sarson da saag (a vegetarian curry) and makki di roti (a flat unleavened bread). Get a taste of the traditional recipes from Punjab, the frontier state of India, with a modern update. There’s no doubt the six-course meal will leave you blissfully satiated.

4. Lewin Terrace: The Art of Plating – Minoyaki

Lewin Terrace - The Art of Plating – Minoyaki
Whet your appetite as you relish in the artfully meticulous plating of Lewin Terrace’s Japanese-French dishes. Instead of the usual offerings, however, the Singapore-based eatery’s executive chef Keisuki Matsumoto has designed a dedicated five-course menu specifically for this evening. Served on Minoyaki, a luxury Japanese brand of ceramic tableware, some highlights of the feast include the classical French onion truffle soup, frat fish carpaccio, and the piece de resistance, the golden roast lobster with milk cream sauce (pictured).

5. LeVeL33: Evolution of a Different Brew

Looking to indulge in some craft beer? At this dining event, you can savour five different brews all in one night with five European-style dishes by Singapore’s penthouse craft-brewery LeVeL33. The establishment uses top-notch microbrewery equipment and traditional recipes to create original craft beers – four of its signature selections will be served with the tea-inspired spread (in collaboration with NEWBY TEA).

But this is exactly what Ryan Clift offers at Tippling Club, an award-winning restaurant and one of The World’s 50 Best Bars in 2013. In collaboration with Australian wine producer Penfolds, the eight-course dinner pairs Tippling Club’s modern cuisine with Penfolds’ wines, presented by Penfolds winemaking ambassador Patrick Dowling. 7. The Disgruntled Chef at The Club: Journey through the World of Scottish Single Malts

Some call it “liquid gold”. Others call it whisky. Daniel Sia, the founder and executive chef of The Disgruntled Chef, in partnership with whisky connoisseur Christoph B Nyfeler of Whisky World take on the challenge of pairing Scottish single malts with modern European nosh. Look forward to intriguing offerings such as the truffle Brie Bikini’wiches, the oxtail and truffle “Scotch Broth”, and the whiskey flambéed langoustine.

As hinted by the title, this isn’t your average tasting session. For those who crave the authentic flavours of Malaysian cuisine as much as they crave an adventure, this two-day trip brings you to the states of Johor and Malacca, where it’s basically one stop after another of endless gorging on local cuisines. And why not amp the road trip up by travelling on motorbikes? This is your only chance to feel like a foodie renegade of sorts.

9. 13% Gastro Wine Bar: Private Wine Dinner

Trust the founders of 13% Gastro Wine Bar, Bruno Vaillant and Geoffrey Weckx, to put together a hearty meal that’ll leave you bursting at the seams. Aside from its excellent selection of wines, the private dinner’s menu is chockfull of delicacies that’ll induce salivation at their mere mention. Some highlights are the fresh crab timbale, avocado and mascarpone mousse, slow cooked beef cheek marinated in red wine, poached demoiselle lobster, and vanilla Madagascar crème brulee.
